NCSS Develops a Reference Standard for JSC Tatchempharmpreparaty
30.10.2025Four reference standards (RSs) – Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, Ketoprofen and Ambroxol – have emerged as the most in-demand among pharmaceutical manufacturers, according to sales data over a 9-month period in 2025 from the National Center of Standard Samples (NCSS).
Sales volume of these four standards accounted for 36% of all NCSS standards procured during the reporting period, with demand doubling compared to the same period last year.
The NCSS Sales Department suggests that this popularity indicates a shift by pharmaceutical companies towards certified reference standards (CRS) produced by the Center. The consistent high production volume of drugs based on the above-mentioned active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) is also a contributing factor.
“In a market with hundreds of manufacturers, meeting all pharmacopoeial requirements is critical, even when referring to such well-studied substances as Ibuprofen. The use of CRS is a fundamental risk mitigation tool. Their active procurement demonstrates that companies are prioritizing quality control for the foundational substances used in a wide variety of drugs and dosage forms available on the market”, added Elena Tereshchuk, Head of the NCSS Sales Department.
Industry experts attribute the popularity of medicines containing Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, Ketoprofen and Ambroxol active substances to their proven efficacy, favorable safety profile, broad therapeutic application, and widespread over-the-counter availability.
The NCSS provides pharmaceutical companies with domestic reference standards and also produces them upon special requests.
